Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
For the chocolate glaze:
1/4 cup unsalted butter
2 tbsp cocoa powder
3 tbsp milk
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Pinch of flaky sea salt (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture and mix until combined.
6. Scoop dough into balls and place on the baking sheet, slightly flattening each.
7. Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are set. Let cool slightly.
8. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan, then whisk in cocoa powder and milk.
9. Remove from heat and stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
10. Spoon warm glaze over cookies and immediately sprinkle with pecans and sea salt if using.
Pro Tip:
Pour the glaze while cookies are still slightly warm so it melts into the tops for that classic “sheet cake” texture!
