Layered Ground Beef Casserole Bake

Prep time: 20 minutes

Cook time: 40 minutes

Total time: 1 hour

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

1 small onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup tomato sauce

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon paprika

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup mozzarella cheese

2 cups prepared mashed potatoes (or biscuit/cornbread batter for topping)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the onion until soft.

3. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.

4. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

5. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika. Let simmer for 5–7 minutes.

6. In a greased baking dish, spread half of the mashed potatoes (or batter) as the base layer.

7. Add the beef mixture evenly over the base.

8. Sprinkle a generous layer of cheddar and mozzarella cheese.

9. Top with the remaining mashed potatoes (or batter), spreading evenly.

10. Finish with more cheese on top.

11. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

12. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Pro Tip:

For extra flavor, mix a little sour cream and butter into your mashed potatoes—or add a dash of hot sauce to the beef layer for a subtle kick 🔥
